You Look Beautiful In This Light

Task 1: You Look Beautiful In This Light

In this task I took photographs of my partner using the flash in many ways and using different settings on the camera. As i started taking photos following the bullet pointed instructions I began to think of ideas in which I could make more creative lighting effects still only using the camera top flash and discovering ways of bouncing light back towards the subjects face from different angles.

This First photograph was taken using a normal flash focusing on a subject that is standing before a window (outside is daylight). Using a normal flash in this way will illuminate the subject but also the flash will hit the window with quite a strong punch and produce a glare on the glass causing what is beyond the glass outside to darken.

In this photograph I changed the flash setting to 'Fill flash' which will illuminate the foreground subject in the case where the background is already illuminated. As you can see the subject in the foreground is hit by the flash but the flash does not effect the background that does no need to be flashed as it is already illuminated.

Here I tried out some more technical and creative techniques to light the subject. For this image I used a  piece of white paper and asked an assistant to hold it just to the right side of the subject out of the frame and shine a torch towards the paper so that it reflected a soft glow back onto the subjects left side of the face, which I think is a good effect as sometimes a strong light coming from the same angle could produce a hash shadow to fall behind the nose and eyes.

Here I have positioned my subject next to a white wall and taken the photograph using the on camera flash. But, I
